“The basis of lean production: 6S application”

The 5S application first launched by Toyota with the lean production vision in the 1950s comprises of the steps of Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu and Shitsuke. This application has evolved to 6S with the Security step added in recent years. Lean production philosophy of Taiichi Ohno, an engineer who creates the lean production model and develops lean production principles focuses on removing the losses in production, improving productivity, reducing occupational accidents and mistakes, using the production areas and plants efficiently and improving the quality. The motivation and efficiency of the employees increase with the cleaner, more systematic and safer work environment created in the institutions that adopt the lean production understanding.

“The application will spread the whole factory”

Stating that the application started with 8 teams continues with 16 teams today, Cinzia Farisè, CEO of Turk Prysmian Kablo, said “The 6S application first started in the production area. As of this year, we will launch it in the offices, also. Our greatest goal is to ensure that this application involves in the entire company and to make it sustainable through monthly inspections. In our opinion, the most important feature of 6S applications is that our co-workers embrace both their work and their work environments, since they are personally involved in this activity. As our trainings and inspections are continuing, we experience visible and positive changes in the field. These positive changes both increase our motivation and offer a more efficient and safe work environment.”
