Manufacturing Academy, where training meets production
The Prysmian Group Manufacturing Academy is now a reality, having just been inaugurated at the Mudanya plant by Valerio Battista. “This Academy can give our people the opportunity to get in touch with the best practices in manufacturing that are owned by our Group” states the CEO. “We want current and future leaders of our factories to be trained here. We need people that are able to think differently, that follow their ideas, that have the power to dream and to change.”
This Academy is designed to help employees see things for themselves. As home to one of our largest global production facilities and a centre of excellence and expertise, it offers an unparalleled insight into the world of manufacturing. The aim of the Academy is to strengthen the technical, leadership and manufacturing skills of our people. As a result, it will have a positive effect on all our product ranges, and foster the development of a strong Manufacturing Community.
“The Manufacturing Academy has a very high value for the Group and for its employees” comments Fabrizio Rutschmann, HR and Organization SVP. “We wait for the most talented people in manufacturing. This is a space where global and local experts can meet and exchange know-how and experience, a real center of excellence in manufacturing that can enhance knowledge sharing and reinforce the best technical practices.”
The Manufacturing Academy portfolio will offer three different programs to Prysmian employees according to the roles and seniority of participants: Manufacturing Fundamentals, Advanced Manufacturing and Excellence in Manufacturing. Lecturers, comprising experts from both Prysmian Group globally and Prysmian Group Turkey locally, will share their specialised knowledge and experience on different topics.
The first training program of the Manufacturing Academy started on January 18 at the Mudanya plant. The training programs are designed for junior manufacturing personnel with 1-3 years of cable experience, like Process/Production/Quality Engineers, Efficiency Specialists, Production Planners, Maintenance Specialists, who want to hone and develop their competencies, approach and performance in Manufacturing. The program will last a total of three weeks spread over an 11-month period. The participants from all over the world will kick-off with the Manufacturing Fundamentals module, after which they will split into three groups to take the Advanced Manufacturing, and Excellence in Manufacturing modules on the job with a hands-on approach.
The purpose of this course is to enhance the Group’s manufacturing knowledge, culture and terminology by creating a strong community of experts able to share and implement the best internal practices. Furthermore, participants will enhance their knowledge about KPIs, Processes & Materials & Controls, Blue Collar Management, Continuous Improvement, Tools & Methods, Best Practices & Efficiencies, Maintenance & Machinery, Cost Management and Interfunctional knowledge.
“We’re proud to see our Mudanya plant as the Group’s Centre of Excellence and Expertise for Training in Manufacturing, also thanks to the involvement of local and global operations experts” said Halil Kongur, Mudanya Plant Director and Chairman of Prysmian Group Turkey with 35 years of experience in the Group. “Operations are becoming an even more sensitive topic because of how they relate to the satisfaction of customers, who buy Prysmian products both for their excellence and the precision in supply. For all these reasons, this centre is a great result for us in Turkey and for the company as a whole: we now have a strong point of reference for continuing to work, evolve and excel as a leading cable company.”
According to the Chief Operating Officer Andrea Pirondini, “the future success of our company depends on our ability to progress, learn and improve as an organisation and as individuals. Therefore we’ve developed this Academy in order to focus on the best manufacturing skills that can lead towards excellence.”
